Want to know how your Texas donation helps fellow Texans? History of Grapevine Relief And Community Exchange (GRACE)
Grapevine Relief and Community Exchange (GRACE) was organized in 1987 as a response to wide-spread needs evident in far northeast Tarrant County, Texas. The communities of Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake, located midway between the urban areas of Ft. Worth and Dallas, were almost 20 miles from state, county and other major assistance resources at that time. As a result, people who were struggling with a limited income, financial crisis or other hardship usually resorted to knocking on the doors of local churches, fire stations, businesses, or schools.
Today, GRACE continues to be a Texas Charity that provides centralized, coordinated effort of churches, businesses and individuals donating food, clothing, monetary donations, and even professional services to Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake residents, as well homeless and transient families in need.
The joint civic-ecumenical agency strives to increase its scope of services in proportion to the need and the available resources. The results prove the underlying premise of GRACE, which is that promoting self-sufficiency promotes community cohesiveness. Currently, over 25 churches, 40 service providers, 100 businesses and groups, 500+ individuals, and 28 staff members support GRACE. Each of our programs require dedicated volunteers to fulfill our mission.
With our multiple programs including our Donation Station, Food Pantry, Graceful Buys Resale Shop, Medical Clinic and Tech Center we provide Grapevine, Colleyville and Southlake residents with a full suite of services for those in need. In addition we provide a great opportunity to volunteer in many different areas in the Grapevine, Southlake and Colleyville communities.
Donation Station is the program and facility where you can donate cars, donate computers, or donate any un-need household items. Graceful Buys is our charity resale shop that offers quality used items at a very low price. The Tech Center offers computer classes for those who need computer skills training for better opportunities. We have many volunteer teaching opportunities for our Tech Center.
Each year volunteers logged over 30,000 hours of service at GRACE. Volunteers in Texas are vital to the daily operations of GRACE. Texas Volunteer and donation opportunities include: sorting and stocking food pantry and clothing room, case workers and case aids in client services, various administrative support services, accepting donations at Donation Station, pricing items at Graceful Buys Resale store. Various after hours and seasonal volunteer opportunities include Board and committee activities, Lend-A-Hand home repair services, Habitat work, and holiday preparation.
In 2004, GRACE served 1207 unduplicated families in our community.
